Privacy Policy — Al-Kafi App

1. Information We Collect

We collect no personal information. The app runs without accounts, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information. We operate no backend server that receives user data.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

The app saves the following data locally using your device's storage (localStorage):

• Favorite hadiths (IDs of hadiths you've starred)
• Highlights (color-tagged excerpts with optional notes)
• Your personal comments on hadiths
• Custom lists you've created
• Reading history (recently opened hadiths)
• Search history (stays on your device only)
• Preferences (font size, theme)
• Daily-reminder preferences (chosen time and on/off state) — only if you enable notifications
• A random internal ID used by the data-merge system during import

None of this data leaves your device automatically. It is erased entirely when you uninstall the app.

3. iCloud Sync (Optional — Apple devices only)

On Apple devices signed into iCloud, the app syncs your data across your own Apple devices using Apple's NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore service.

• Data travels through Apple's servers and is stored in your iCloud account — we do not access it and do not store it on our servers.
• Your iCloud-synced data is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
• You can disable this sync at: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud → الكافي.
• Synced: favorites, highlights, comments, lists, reading history. Not synced: UI preferences (font size, theme) since those are per-device.

4. Export / Import (Optional)

The app lets you export your data as a JSON file you can share with anyone you choose (a friend, a backup, another device).

• Export only happens when you explicitly tap the export button.
• We do not transmit this file anywhere — you decide how to share it (email, AirDrop, messaging app, etc.).
• When importing a friend's file, you see a summary of what it contains before merging, and you can cancel.

5. Local Notifications (Optional)

If you enable the "Daily Hadith Reminder" feature from the side menu, the app schedules daily notifications directly on your device using your operating system's local notification system (iOS / Android).

• Notifications are scheduled and stored locally on your device only. They never travel through an external server, including ours.
• Each notification's content (the day's رواية text) is selected from data already on your device.
• Disabling the feature from the same menu cancels every scheduled notification immediately.
• You can also turn off notifications system-wide: Settings → Notifications → الكافي.
• Haptic feedback (the brief tactile "tap" you feel on certain interactions) runs entirely on-device via the system Taptic Engine and collects no data.

6. Third-Party Services

The app does not communicate with any external data-collection service:

• No analytics SDK (no Google Analytics, no Firebase Analytics, no Mixpanel, etc.).
• No advertising or ad-tracking frameworks.
• Arabic typefaces (Tajawal, Amiri) and the text-shaping engine (HarfBuzz, used to render share images) are bundled locally inside the app, run entirely on-device, and are not loaded from any external CDN.
• When you share a رواية — whether as a link or as an image — the content is generated entirely on your device and handed to the app you choose via the system share sheet; al-Kafi does not upload, store, or track shared content.
• The only outbound network activity in the app is the optional iCloud sync (for users who have chosen to enable it on an Apple device).

7. Children's Privacy

The app is appropriate for all ages and is not specifically directed at children. We collect no personal information from users of any age. The app complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Google Play's Families policy by virtue of not collecting data at all.

8. Your Rights

• Access your data: All of it is visible inside the app (favorites, comments, highlights, etc.).
• Modify your data: Directly within the app.
• Delete your data:
  • To erase from your device: uninstall the app.
  • To erase iCloud-synced copies: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → الكافي → Delete Data.
• Export your data: Use the "Export Data" option in the side menu at any time.
• Data portability: The exported file can be imported on any other device running the app.

9. Security

Data on your device is protected by your operating system's built-in security (iOS / Android). Data synced via iCloud is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. When you export and share a data file, you are responsible for choosing a secure sharing channel.

10. Data Retention

We retain no user data because we collect none. Local data persists on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. iCloud data persists in your iCloud account until you manually delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. Any material change will be surfaced inside the app on first launch after the update.

13. Jurisdiction-Specific Notes

GDPR (EU/UK): Since we collect no personal data, most GDPR articles do not apply. You retain full control over your data through the rights listed in section 8. Our lawful basis for processing any device-local data is your direct consent expressed by using the app.

CCPA (California): We do not sell or share personal information. We do not collect personal information as defined by the CCPA.
